History
Store History and Background
Located in the historic West Huntsville district, Huntsville Hardware and Building Supply has been owned and operated by the same family since 1934. Brothers Marvin and Shelby Drake first operated as Drake Brothers Coal Company, delivering wood and coal to mill houses by mule and wagon. Roofer Bill Hollingsworth later partnered with them and the store expanded into Huntsville Roofing Company. The partnership specialized in roofing materials, roofing installation and hardware supplies. Marvin’s son-in-law took over the company in 1972, and has continued the tradition of offering reliable service to North Alabama.
In 1993 Huntsville Roofing changed its name to Huntsville Hardware and Building Supply to better reflect the products sold and services offered. This name change reflected the business of supplying customers with the options they needed: hardware materials and building supplies.
For over 75 years Huntsville Hardware has maintained quality service and a helpful environment. Contractors, tradesmen, or first-time homeowners and do-it-yourself enthusiasts are always welcome in our store and treated with the same respect. Our knowledgeable employees will work with you to find what you need, and even take the time to help you better understand a procedure.
